Nikolai Zherdev RW-LW/CLS This kid has speed, he has hands and he has all the skill anyone could want. The problem is he has no heart, no work ethic, and some type of medical issue.
I have read other fantasy sites and columns that always praise this kid as the next coming, and each year I see managers getting burned taking him way too early. I'm here to end the madness. Leave Zherdev alone for a few years.
I have watched this kid since his rookie season, and while I love his game when he shows up, he rarely shows up! This kid does not seem capable of putting it all together. He is very young and it could just be a change of environment he needs. Its hard to say why he can't put it together on the ice, but its not like Nash has tore up CLS either, so maybe if Zherdev gets traded he will take off.
I'm not saying he can't be an all-star in real life or a fantasy goal scoring stud one day, but I am saying don't sell the farm to buy a goat. If you draft him high he will be the scapegoat you blame for your teams loss.
In 71 games played last season Zherdev put up 10 Goals, 22 Assists for 32 Points. He was a -19 and put up 26 PIMs. 12 PPPs and 2 GWGs while registering 164 SOG.
For those of you keeping track at home thats 17 goals less than last year and 30 less SOG. A brutal dip in production. While Zherdev may be a candidate for a bounce back season in all other fantasy columns, I would like to see you stay away.
