Team Cheat Sheet: Montreal Canadiens

Fast rundown to help form a draft plan. DND = Do Not Draft

Montreal Canadiens:

Begin, Steve C/LW - A decent FA match up play. DND

Bouillon, Francis D - Match up play only. DND

Brisebois, Patrice D - Most managers will forget him next season. Could be a late late round sleeper. A gamble pick for sure.

Carle, Mathieu D - Has a strong offensive presence. Could see PP time as early as next year.

Cullimore, Jassen D - :UPDATE: Aquired from CHI in the Samsonov deal: MTL has agreed to buy out his contract. DND

Dandenault, Mathieu D - Not much value, match up only. DND

Gorges, Josh D - Good young D-man. No fantasy value. DND

Grabovski, Mikhail C/W - This kid could have magic with Kostitsyn next season and hurt Plekanek's ice.

Halak, Jaroslav G - The likely back up to Huet next year. Insurance pick if you have Huet.

Hamrlik, Roman D - UPDATE If he stays healthy he could put up Souray like numbers with a better +/-. Solid pick for all formats.

Higgins, Christopher C/LW - Talk about up and down. Should be more ups next year. Decent Mid-round pick, higher pick in keepers.

Huet, Cristobal G - Fantasy stud, should be better next year.

Johnson, Mike RW - He was dropped in many leagues last year. I don't see a bounce back. DND

Koivu, Saku C - A great option for points and PIMs. His +/- was ahuge hurt last season. Don't overreach for him.

Komisarek, Mike D - A decent match up play for SHPs and PIMs. Worth a late pick in deep PIM leagues.

Kostitsyn, Andrei LW - I love this kids upside. He could be a monster next year. I have him on my keeper teams.

Kostitsyn, Sergei RW - :UPDATE: Sergei signed a three year deal with Montreal. Look for him to see some NHL time next season. Very talented like his older brother Andrei, huge upside. Good keeper or farm team option. Might be a year away yet foir keeper owners but might want to lock him up early if you are rebuilding.

Kostopoulos, Tom RW - UPDATE Solid match up play for PIMs and might get you some points. DND

Kovalev, Alexei RW - No longer a top guy he still can get some numbers and PIMs.

Lapierre, Maxim C - He could find a full time role with the team next year. Decent match up play. DND

Latendress, Guillaume RW - Hard working kid with talent. Not ready to help most fantasy formats yet. Worth a sniff in keepers.

Leighton, Michael G - Not an option! DND

Markov, Andrei D - A great option on D for those managers that don't want to spend high picks on the Souray type. :Update: Markov just signed, so look for him to be a big part of the PP next season.

Murray, Garth RW - If you draft him then you better start reading my blog more. DND

Niinimaa, Janne D - Once a good option in PIM leagues, he was buried in MTL. DND

Perezhogin, Alexander RW - Bad news for those of you holding him on a keeper or farm team. He signed in Russia and it does not look to be a contract ploy. DND

Plekanec, Tomas C - He could be a good option late, but plenty of centers can get the same numbers.

Price, Carey G - :UPDATE: After his AHL playoff run the buzz on him is huge. If Huet struggles or gets hurt next year look for Price to step in: A must for keepers and farm teams, he could see NHL time next season if Huet gets hurt again. Otherwise he should spend all next season in the AHL.

Ryder, Michael RW - He chips in his goals and his PIMs but I would rather have someone else that was more consistent.

Salmelainen, Tony LW/RW - :UPDATE: Acquired from CHI: Good speed with some finish. He could use more strength and better finish. DND

Smolinski, Bryan C - UPDATE Look for him to fill the checking role of Bonk. DND

Streit, Mark D - I remember seeing this guy in the Olympics a few years back and wondering why he was not in the NHL. Could put up bigger numbers on the PP if Souray leaves.

Thats it for now, check back for updates as players sign and prospects move up the food chain.
